I only post this for 1 reason: This Site. It couldn't be more clear and to-the-point. I've bookmarked it, tagged it in del.icio.us, marked it with a 'B' and thrown it in the oven for baby and me.

I'm sure they exist, but I want more sites like this for each of my most pressing needs in life... for example: "Change-the-oil.net" or "Install-a-sink.net"

And I lied... there's another reason for this post. I've noticed that it's awfully close to Christmas. My tie / shirt ratio is rather low... it's starting to look like I'm wearing the same thing over and over again. type='text'>Just hgumphgagghpt already!

I can with reasonable certainty that, to this moment in my life I have never come to a point where I hoped and prayed for another human being to "hauck up a loogie" (never thought I'd use the phrase hauck up a loogie in any of my writing, either... brace yourself, there's much more to come).

I've haucked up very impressive loogies of my own, and even imagined romanticized, Hollywood scenes where I launch a perfectly formed snotwad at the forehead of the school bully... but never actually felt a desire... no, a desperate longing... for another person to perform the simple task of "clearing one's throat and post-nasal passages of excess phlegm and extricating with great force through the mouth."

I'm feeling that now.

My precious 5-month-old has been wrestling with a cold (who isn't this time of year?) for the past week and I'm sure I could make her feel better if there were just some way to teach her this life-long lesson. What's the Baby Sign for "snort & spit?" I've often daydreamed of the day when I get to take Gwynn to the gym and teach her how to get just the right arch on her jump shot... how to line up the mower wheels so they just overlap and create that perfect line like in the outfield of major league baseball stadiums... how to smile genuinely and give a firm handshake that exudes self-confidence.

None of that crap is important now... what's important is that I figure out some way to teach my precious princess how to launch the loogie of a lifetime so we can move on with life. After all, that's what dads are for, right?

He just got back up... and climbed the tree again... unbelievable...

Squirrels in Nebraska are pretty fat in January.

Last tuesday morning, I ventured out into the frigid air to warm up my car. I don't know if this particular squirrel's girth contributed to it's "accident" but I can't believe it helped... Anyway, some movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. I looked just in time to see a squirrel fall the final 10 feet of what must have been about a 45-50 foot drop (judging by the still quivering branches).

You know the sound a pumpkin makes when dropped in the road? No, not the "squish" or "splat," but the "thud." The thing didn't even bounce. I just kind of stared in disbelief.... then the thoughts started running through my head. Did he miscalculate the distance to the next branch? Did the branch break? What was he thinking as he was falling ("great... I'll never live this one down," "jeez, I need to get to the gym," "why did I get out of my squirrel bed?").

Then, as if waving the white flag of surrender, his tail raised up and wagged a bit. The stare of disbelief continued for a couple more minutes. He seemed to be conducting a bit of a systems check, and rebooting because, after what seemed like an eternity, he got up onto all fours and walked (albeit, slowly) to the base of the tree from which he had just fallen. A few minutes more, and he was back onto the side of the tree and ascending once again.

I'm not sure where to take it from here... there are so many lessons I could try to segue to. Rather than get preachy, I'll just let you fill in the blank: The moral of the story is:__________________

Oh, yeah... and don't get so fat you fall out of trees.

4 Month Visit

Just a quick update..

Gwynn had her 4 month checkup today. Only question is, why didn't this happen sooner?

No answer, other than to read the preceding paragraph again... 'nuff said.

I tossed around the idea of a "gimmicky" blog that tries to take an alternative point-of-view (Mezi and Lacy's blog), but that seemed a bit too corny. I thought about focusing on one aspect of our lives, but that seemed a bit too... well... impossible.

So, what you see here is what I came up with.... the standard family blog. I figure family and friends to be our audience, so swing by for little updates about our lives... leave a comment, we'd love to hear from you!

-tim
